Mission, Texas Pummeled With Another Hail Storm
Mission, Texas just can’t seem to catch a break. For the 2nd time this year, Mission, just west of McAllen, Texas, was hit with another hail storm.
Local authorities reported hail throughout much of the city of Mission, ranging from quarter to golf ball sized hail at the intersection of Expressway 83 (I2) and La Homa Road.
According to various meteorologist reports much of the Rio Grande Valley was with a plethora of lightning strikes. Over 17,000 air to ground strikes were recorded, with over 5000 recorded in Mission and over 2000 recorded in McAllen. Most lightning strikes can cause small damage throughout your home, such as cracked drywall, popped nails, or broken or raised shingles. In rare occasions, lightning strikes can cause overwhelming damage to some homes, such as the case with a local Mission resident living at her Business 83 and Moorefield Road home, (KRGV), as well as 5 different homes in McAllen (KGBT).
Not surprisingly, KRGV is reporting that “more than 2000 AEP customers in Hidalgo County are still without power” as of Friday morning.
At the time of this writing, damage reports have yet to be finalized for the overnight 08/19 – 08/20 storm, however local experts believe it could potentially match this past March’s devastating hail storm.
