Vitamin E Acetate Linked To Vaping Illness Breakout
Traces of vitamin e acetate were discovered in lung samples of people who had reported falling ill after vaping and e-cigarette use according to tests conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. According to their release, this is the first “potential chemical of concern” that they have detected surrounding the mysterious outbreak that has resulted in over 2,000 cases of lung disease including 39 deaths.
The CDC conducted testing of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples from 29 patients from 10 different states. All 29 tested positive for containing vitamin e acetate, a chemical compound additive used in the production of e-cigarettes and vaping products. The CDC also noted that it was detected at “the primary site of injury in the lungs.”
Does JUUL Contain Vitamin E Acetate?
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, JUUL Labs Inc. and Altria, the owner, and manufacturer of JUUL have stated that their product does not contain vitamin e acetate, however, given JUUL track record of disreputable business practices, taking their word for it is certainly a hard pill to swallow. The New York State Department of Health also conducted testing of a variety of popular vaping products and did not detect vitamin e acetate in nicotine-based products, however, they do not name JUUL specifically and their findings contrast with CDCs latest report where nicotine products actually made up 62% of samples with detectable levels of the compound.
Unfortunately, outside of conducting tests on JUUL products specifically, it is unknown whether vitamin e acetate is currently being used in JUUL.
Should I Talk To An Injury Lawyer If I Became Sick From Vaping?
Yes. If you believe that you may be a victim of vape poisoning, you should speak to an injury lawyer or a defective product lawyer immediately. Texas laws allow you to bring claims against companies that negligently sell dangerous products to Texas consumers. A successful injury claim can help pay for your medical bills, lost wages from time off work, as well as any future disability or permanent injuries you may have incurred due to vaping using their products.
Don’t wait to speak to an experienced injury lawyer; every day that you wait and hold off on getting anything started for your injury claim could potentially harm your end result in the long run.
