Most major cities in the Rio Grande Valley are reeling from flood waters after nearly a foot of rain poured down on the area.
On Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott declared a “State of Disaster” for Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Counties, along with San Patricio and Nueces, directing that relief resources be allocated to help cope with the disaster.
Parts of McAllen, Weslaco, Harlingen, and Mission were virtually underwater as rescue workers tended to those unable to safely evacuate their homes as the water levels began to rise during Tuesday and Wednesday’s torrential downpour. Homes and businesses alike across the Rio Grande Valley saw floodwaters steadily creep inside until the rain ceased.
