The wife of Dr. Jorge Zamora-Quesada, Meisy Angelica Zamora, was arrested Thursday, July 26th on similar charges her husband is currently facing after allegedly scamming government healthcare programs such as Medicare out of over $240 million in fraudulent billing.
The FBI alleges that both Dr. Zamora and his wife co-conspired by falsely diagnosing a number of patients with a variety of degenerative diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, as well as prescribing dangerously powerful medications such as injectable chemotherapy to patients who did not require such medications. According to the federal indictment, Dr. Zamora and his wife would allegedly engage in these dangerous practices in fraudulently billing government healthcare programs such as Medicare to fund their lavish lifestyle that included exclusive penthouses in New York and Mexico, high-end cars, and a private jet.
Thursday, August 2nd, US Magistrate Judge Juan F. Alanis denied Meicy Zamora bail as he determined that she was a flight risk. Ultimately, his decision was based on recorded phone conversations between Dr. Zamora’s children and himself while he was incarcerated.
Dr. Zamora is currently charged with 1 count of Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud, 5 counts of Health Care Fraud, and 1 count of Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering.
